Matt’s background is in conversational language understanding. Since his PhD in the Cambridge University Dialogue Systems group from 2010-2014, Matt has worked in research teams at various start-ups and larger tech companies. At Google Research London, Matt worked on neural network methods for synthesis, before moving to a language understanding group at Google Research in Mountain View. There he was technical lead for the Gmail Smart Reply research team. After Google, he was the principal data scientist at Carousell in Singapore. Matt then joined PolyAI as a first employee building conversational agents for automating call centres, becoming their VP of Research. Before joining Reka, he was a principal researcher in Apple AI/ML in the Siri team.
